How it works
- Choose a clear photo, scan or screenshot. It stays on your phone or computer.
- Pick the language of the text. The text reader and that language download once, then run in your browser.
- Check the text, fix any misread words, then copy it or download a .txt file.
Questions
Is it free?
Yes. Reading one image at a time is free and unlimited. To read several images in one go and save one .txt file with a heading for each image, get a one-time 24-hour image to text pass (US$1.49).
Are my images uploaded?
No. The text is read inside your browser by Tesseract, an open-source OCR engine. The engine and the language data download from jsDelivr the first time. Your images never leave your device.
How accurate is it?
Clear printed text in a sharp, straight photo usually comes out nearly word for word. Handwriting, tiny print, curved pages and busy backgrounds cause mistakes, so read the text through before you use it.
Which languages work?
English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Indonesian, Hindi, Bengali, Arabic, Russian and simplified Chinese. Pick one language per image.
