How it works

Step by step

  1. Choose a clear photo, scan or screenshot. It stays on your phone or computer.
  2. Pick the language of the text. The text reader and that language download once, then run in your browser.
  3. Check the text, fix any misread words, then copy it or download a .txt file.

Questions

Can I copy text from a screenshot?

Yes. Screenshots work best, because the text is sharp and straight. Choose the screenshot, then tap Copy text.

Is it safe for ID cards and certificates?

Yes. The image is read inside your browser and never uploaded. Check names and numbers carefully, because OCR can mix up similar characters such as 0 and O.

Can I extract text from several images at once?

One image at a time is free. A one-time 24-hour image to text pass (US$1.49) reads several in one go and saves one .txt file with a heading for each image.

Does it read handwriting?

Only neat block letters, and not reliably. It is built for printed text.
